Hello, my friends at LSM! I hope some of you got the chance to visit Julian this past month after reading my last issue. If not, this is the perfect time to go! October apple picking is a fall staple, and we are so lucky to have such a beautiful place to do it near us.
However, if you are still hoping to clench onto the last few weeks of summer weather, I have the perfect recommendation for you. Just a twenty-minute drive from LSM is Cardiff-by-the-Sea! If you are a surfer, you probably know the area well. And, if you are new in town, I highly recommend checking it out!
I have been in Texas for a month now starting out my senior year, and it is still so hot here! My car said it was 97 degrees today! So, as you can imagine, I tried to soak up every bit of the perfect San Diego weather while at home.
During my last week at home, my mom and I spent the perfect morning together. We put on our work out sets and our flip flops to prepare for a walk on the beach. Then, we grabbed our golden retriever’s leash, and all got in the car. Naturally, as true San Diegans, we had all four windows down and blasted 80s music while making our way to Cardiff.
Our grand plan was a relaxing walk on the beach, but we had two very important stops first. We drove straight to Seaside Market in Cardiff, where I ran across the street to pick up two breakfast burritos for us from Pipe’s Cafe. Now, I think I need to stop right here before I go any further and emphasize how absolutely insane their breakfast burritos are. I definitely recommend the one with eggs, avocado, bacon, salsa, and plenty of other delicious fix-ins!
Once we had secured the burritos, there was one more stop to make: Starbucks obviously. We got our refreshing drinks to help cool us down on our walk, and we were on our way to the beach.
After eating my entire burrito in one sitting, it was time to take our dog, Koda, to the Cardiff dog beach! If you have a dog that likes the ocean, or if you are just a dog person, you would love this beach. There is space for the dogs to run, play, and jump in the water.
Koda loves walking on the beach, but he can’t quite understand the waves. He tends to play a game of chicken with the waves, running up to them and then galloping away as quickly as he can.
My mom and I had the best time walking in the sand, laughing at Koda, and chatting. I wish that moment could have lasted just a little longer, but of course, I had to fly back for school the next day. I enjoy being in Dallas, but nothing beats southern California’s beauty. I am so blessed to have grown up there and I feel so lucky to get to visit a vacation destination during our school holidays. This is why I love writing this column. I absolutely love getting to share the parts of my home that are close to my heart with all of you, in the hopes that you will get to experience these places as well. So, take advantage of having places like Cardiff-by-the-Sea so close, and “sea” what you can “sea!”
